The 4th edition of Tree of the Year Nepal 2020 was successfully concluded on October 7, 2020. The ongoing pandemic led to the change in modality of the event and from the submissions, judgment to the declaration of the winners were all done virtually. This year, the event was done in collaboration with United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Nepal.

The contest was announced on August 19 on the occasion of World Photography Day. Participants were required to submit a picture of a tree with special significance and describe its importance. This year the virtual event received an overwhelming number of 200+ entries from applicants from all over Nepal. Like previous years, Nisha Adhikari was the Goodwill Ambassador and Judge of the contest. Other esteemed judges included Chudamani Joshi, Landscape Ecologist and Special Advisor to the Embassy of Finland; Moon Gurung, Country Coordinator of UNV, Ranjit Acharya, CEO of Prisma Advertising and Bikash Karki; Photojournalist. The judges mutually decided on the image and story submitted by Kamal BK as the winner.

Saira Khadka and Barsha Thapa Magar were selected as the second and third winner whereas Shiva Prasad Paudel’s entry was declared in the Special Mentions category. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. Along with that, their entries will also be submitted to Asian Tree of the Year- a continent- wide contest.
