Volunteer for Change (VFC) conducted a silent rally under #GlobalClimateStrike in collaboration with Youth Innovation on Science and Technology on May 24, 2019, to show solidarity to Greta Thunberg for her effort to draw the world leaders attention towards global warming and climate change. The silent rally was conducted simultaneously in 109 countries including India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM as an extension of School Strike for Climate, also known as Fridays For Future and Youth Strike For Climate which was started by Thunberg.
The rally saw the participation of above sixty-five environmentally conscious youths- among which two were the Canadian students. The students applauded the initiation taken by Nepali youths and shared the interest to conduct a similar protest in their country as well. The rally was followed by an in-house discussion session at Ascol College where the CEO of Eco-Samachar, Suman Giri, Regional Ambassador of Eco-Network, Saru Pyakurel, representative from Central Department of Environment Science, Jeevan Sharma and representative from CREASION and VFC, Aashish Lamichhane shared their insights on climate change and their experiences in the sector.
The #GlobalClimateStrike was first conducted on March 15, 2019, where 1.4 million pupils together urged the world politicians and businessmen to take actions to address climate change.
